|As noted by John Stephenson of NewsBusters, much of the media has been ignoring the enormous Van Jones controversy. However, Joe Garofoli, the politics writer and blogger for Jones’ hometown newspaper, the liberal San Francisco Chronicle, has just written about the toxic effect of Van Jones and who is standing by their Van and who isn’t in his Politics blog:
|Arianna Huffington’s liberal gossip site the Huffington Post has been vigorously defending green jobs czar and 9/11 "truther" Van Jones.
It turns out that Jones was Huffington’s grassroots political director when she ran for governor in the 2003 recall election. In fact, Jones, a self-described "communist," thought Huffington was so wonderful he was part of the effort to draft her to run for office.
A San Francisco Chronicle article from Sept. 5, 2003 described Jones as Huffington’s "grassroots director."
A Miami Herald article from Aug. 3, 2003, described Jones as a "Bay Area activist" and "director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights" who was "[l]eading the charge" to persuade Huffington to run.
"Jones and the fledgling campaign have unveiled a Web site – http://www.RunAriannaRun.com – to generate enthusiasm," the article said. Jones sent out an email the previous month to activists soliciting support for a Huffington candidacy.
"She’s anti-drug war, tough on corporate crime, anti-war, anti-Bush, pro-environment, pro-electoral reform – and smart as hell," Jones was quoted as writing in the email. "If anybody could pull this off, it would be Arianna."
One would think the Huffington Post would disclose how tight Jones and Huffington are, yet the website doesn’t bother to do so in its articles.
Whatever happened to ethics in journalism? Oh wait, I forgot: the Huffington Post isn’t journalism.
VIDEO: Van Jones—Only ‘Suburban White Kids’ Shoot Up Schools: “You’ve never seen a Columbine done by a black child. Never. They always say, ‘We can’t believe it happened here. We can’t believe it’s these suburban white kids.’ It’s only them. Now, a black kid might shoot another black kid. He’s not going to shoot up the whole school.”
On Thursday’s Special Report with Bret Baier, FNC host Baier ran a report by correspondent James Rosen describing a “troubling pattern of behavior” by President Obama’s Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones. The report noted some of the controversial statements and connections of Jones, who has not only described himself in the past with such words as “Marxist” and “radical,” but has also been linked to 9/11 Truthers and radical groups such as one organization whose manifesto “equated those killed on 9/11 with, quote, ‘the victims of U.S. imperialism around the world.'” The report also showed a clip of Jones from last year accusing “white polluters” of “steering poison” into minority communities.
Rosen ran a soundbite of University of Virginia Politics Professor Larry Sabato — known for his willingness to criticize politicians of both parties — who noted that such a controversial figure in the Bush administration would have ignited a “national hurrah of magnificent proportions.” Sabato: “If a Bush official had made anything comparable to what Mr. Jones has said and done, no doubt there would have been a national hurrah of magnificent proportions.”
The FNC correspondent concluded his report by relaying that White House spokesman Robert Gibbs had dismissed the matter contendnig that “President Obama feels no need to comment or to have Gibbs comment on remarks that pre-dated Jones’ White House service and for which Jones himself has apologized.”
Rosen added: “However, Bret, our exchange with Robert Gibbs occurred before this word of Jones’ involvement with the 9/11 Truthers had surfaced.”
Below is a complete transcript of the report from the Thursday, September 3, Special Report with Bret Baier on FNC:
Jones a Truther?
Yesterday Glenn brought you even more disturbing news about Green Jobs Czar Van Jones. He signed his name on a 9/11 truther statement. If you don’t know what a 9/11 truther is, they essentially believe the United States government knew in advance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and purposefully let them happen. Jones released a statement to the media that did not deny he signed his name, he just says he doesn’t agree with the 9/11 truther petition. Uh huh. STORY
